Our Story

Kelly says:
Matt and I were on Student Council together in High School (I was the President and he was the Treasurer), and we got along just fine, but I had a boyfriend and he had a girlfriend.  We sat next to each other in History class and that was where we really got to know one another.  He would tell me all about his girlfriend and ask me for advice.  I thought he was a very caring guy.

Never would I have guessed in a million years that he would call me up two years later.  I wasn't even going to call him back, but my sister made me.  (I thought he wanted to have a Student Council reunion or something silly like that).

It was perfect timing in my life and I was very excited to go out on a date with him - it was the best first date I have ever had (and, as it turns out the last first date I hope to ever have).

Matt has been an inspiration to me and has made me believe that there really is such a thing as True Love.  I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him and all that it entails!

Matt says:
Kelly and I met in High School. We never dated in High School, we simply met there. Senior year we sat next to each other in Political Science class. I remember us joking about how someday I could be her campaign manager when she ran for president of the United States. I walked out of class that day and had this fleeting thought of "What If?" But I immediately dismissed it.

Then one night during my Junior year in college, Chris Rechlicz asked me a question that has since forever shaped my life. He asked, "If you could date anyone from high school that you never got the chance to, who would it be?" The next day I called Kelly. But I was only able to leave her a message because she lived her summers in Madison where she was going to school.

She waited a week before she called me back. I had almost given up, but then finally she did give me a call. It had been over two years since we had spoken and we ended up talking for an hour that night. I told her I wanted to take her out to dinner sometime and she said, "I don't know the next time I'm going to be home." The next weekend we went on our first date.

When I dropped her off at her house that night she stood from her doorstep and waved to me as I drove away. I could see her from my rear view mirror all the way down her road. I knew then that I wanted to marry her. But our second date did not come until months later.

I went back to school... She went back to school... It wasn't until Thanksgiving weekend when we were both back in Menomonee Falls until we had the chance to go on a date again. I told her that when I look at other girls in this world they simply look like "Not-Kelly's" to me. I knew then and I still do today that she is the one.

"I don't want to marry someone I can live with.  I want to marry the person I cannot live without."
