Hike White Road |
Take a quick drive outside of Waimea to White Road. Turn towards the ocean, and drive until the road dead ends. Hike up the road into the forest. Stay left on the trail and follow it for about a mile. Be prepared for some amazing scenery.

Snorkel Kealakekua Bay |
Either hike, kayak or take a boat out to Kealakekua Bay. This is no doubt the best snorkeling spot in Hawaii. The reef is amazing, water very calm, and there's always some dolphins to watch playing in the bay.

Swim at Makalawena Beach |
Without a doubt, the best white sand beach in Hawaii. This beach may be hard to get to, but it's worth the trip. Turn onto a dirt road at mile marker 88 and head towards the ocean. Be sure to head left at the Pu'u. Once you reach the ocean, you should drive along the beach for another 1/4 mile. Soon, you'll reach a gate. From here, it's about another 10 minute walk to the crescent shaped beach. There's also fresh water springs to cool off in after a dip in the ocean.

Visit Waipi`o Valley |
Whatever you're looking for on Hawaii, you can most likely find in Waipi'o Valley. There's a black sand beach, waterfalls, rivers, and rain forests. Take a 4WD down the paved road from the Waipi'o Valley lookout, and explore the area. You'll be glad you came to see this historic Big Island valley. Come see Dan if you want directions to the secret waterfall. This is one of my favorite waterfall swims in Hawaii.

Visit an active volcano |
No where else in the world can you see the power of nature better than on the Big Island. Kiluea has been erupting for many years, and is still going strong. This national park can be visited by car or by helicopter.

Visit the Banana Bread Shop |
One of my favorite stops on the Big Island is the banana bread shop in Captain Cook. Not only do they serve the best banana bread and Kona coffee, but they also serve as our Hawaii tour guide. Every time we ask, they always send us on a new adventure that never disappoints.

Note: | | Aunty Helen’s Banana Bread is one of those Kona products you’ll encounter all along Mamalahoa Highway. It’s baked fresh daily at the bakery in Captain Cook between the 109 and 110 mile markers. If you stop at the bakery, they’ll give you a free sample and you can buy a loaf or a slice. There’s regular banana bread and chocolate chip, pineapple and pineapple coconut for something different. They also make sub sandwiches sold around the Kona Coast. |
